The following is a list of electronic resources available for access from any computer connected to the Internet on the FSU campus and via our EZProxy for off-campus access (http://med.fsu.edu/library/RemoteAccess.asp).
AARP Ageline (EBSCO) -- abstracts the literature of social gerontology as well as aging-related research from psychology, sociology, social work, economics, public policy, and the health sciences. It covers aging-related issues for professionals in aging services, health, business, law, and mental health. AgeLine also includes selected consumer content.
Access Medicine books and Harrison’s Online – The full Access Medicine package to which the FSU College of Medicine subscribes includes Harrison’s, as well as Hurst’s the Heart, Metabolic and Molecular Bases of Inherited Diseases, and the Lange series in the basic medical sciences and in the clinical sciences. Altogether, there are 43 electronic textbooks and reference books included in this package. Harrrison’s Online is the online version of the book, Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, and contains full text with all images, figure tables, graphics, etc. It has a complete table of contents which is linked and has a searchable index that is updated continuously. Full color atlases of cardiology, dermatology, microbiology, hematology, endoscopy, and others are included. It also has clinical trials information, as well as online pretests for board preparation with answers and explanations. PDA downloads of small selected sections are available.

ACP Journal Club - Contains articles from ACP Journal Club, produced by the American College of Physicians, and Evidence-Based Medicine, produced by the ACP and the British Medical Journal Group. Editors regularly review top clinical journals for articles that meet strict criteria for study design and clinical relevance. They write an abstract and commentary on each chosen article to describe its value for clinical practice.

ACP Medicine (Scientific American Medicine) - ACP Medicine is the first comprehensive internal medicine reference to carry the name of the American College of Physicians. ACP Medicine has been developed from WebMD® Scientific American® Medicine with the primary goal of helping physicians achieve excellence in clinical practice through the use of evidence-based medicine and appropriate practice guidelines for diagnosing and treating their patients.

ACP PIER - The Physicians' Information and Education Resource (PIER) is an evidence-based "System" of actionable information about health conditions and interventions. It builds on other ACP-ASIM publications including ACP Journal Club and MKSAP, enabling users to drill down to the evidence-synopses supporting recommendations.

BioMed Central - BioMed Central is an independent publishing house committed to providing immediate free access to peer-reviewed biomedical research. The BioMed Central online portfolio offers scientific and medical image databases, review journals, pharmaceutical research databases, and over 55 peer reviewed research journals, which are accessible through the BioMed Central search platform,

Cambridge Scientific Abstracts* - CSA records go beyond citations to furnish valuable summaries (and some full-text) of original research material, allowing scientists and researchers to identify articles appropriate to their needs. Content coverage includes medicine, genetics, immunology, neurosciences, toxicology, psychology, and many other areas. Of special note to medicine are the resources from PsycInfo linked to the full-text of 48 journals published by the American Psychological Association. (See PsycArticles in this handout.)

CINAHL with Full Text* - provides indexing for 2,737 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health. The database contains more than 1,000,000 records dating back to 1982. Offering complete coverage of English-language nursing journals and publications from the National League for Nursing and the American Nurses' Association, CINAHL with Full Text covers nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health and 17 allied health disciplines. In addition, this database offers access to health care books, nursing dissertations, selected conference proceedings, standards of practice, educational software, audiovisuals and book chapters.

Clinical Evidence - Published by the British Medical Journal Publishing Group, Clinical Evidence summarizes the current literature on over 200 medical conditions and provides the best available evidence on prevention and treatment. This resource is available via the Maguire Medical Library website and also in PDA format for FSU faculty, students and staff.
Cochrane Library at Wiley Interscience – This resource is a regularly updated collection of evidence-based medicine databases. It includes abstracts and full reviews of controlled trials, methodologies, economic evaluation, and health technology assessment.

DXplain - DXplain is a computer program designed to provide quick, easy access to a large database of signs, symptoms, and diagnoses, and to remind the user of disorders that might be associated with a set of clinical features. It includes a differential diagnosis generator that provides a ranked list of differential diagnoses based on signs and symptoms entered by the user. This resource is limited to use by faculty, students and staff of the College of Medicine as requirement for licensure by the producers of DXplain.
Dynamed - DynaMed is designed to provide the most useful information at the point of care for health care professionals. Usefulness requires a balance of validity, relevance, convenience and affordability. Where available, links are provided to full-text electronic resources, including all FSU-available e-journals via a PubMed reference. This resource is available via the Maguire Medical Library and also in PDA format for FSU faculty, students and staff. DynaMed includes the following information on disease entities:

EBM Reviews (Ovid) - This extensive drug reference includes the following modules and monographs searchable from a single search interface: Facts and Comparisons, Drug Interaction Facts, Herbal Interaction Facts, MedFacts Patient Information, A to Z Drug Facts, Review of Natural Products, Off-Label Drug Facts, Cancer Chemo Manual, Nonprescription Drug Therapy, and Investigational Drugs. A drug identification tool is included, along with an interactive search engine for identifying drug-food-herbal interactions.
eMedicine - Has over 7,000 physician authors and editors who create thousands of peer-reviewed, disease specific articles. The e-Medicine resource is now publishing over 400 new review articles monthly. Each article incorporates 4 levels of physician peer-review. E-Medicine also includes over 100 useful medical tools and calculators, as well as a clinical image case, radiograph and ECG of the week, and over 30,000 images. E-Medicine has recently added PubMed searches that link to FSU full-text articles on all e-Medicine topics.

Endnote Web -- Benefits of creating an EndNote Web Library:
- You can add references to your EndNote Web Library directly from Web of Science and other ISI Web of Knowledge products.
- You can organize references in folders for access and use at any time--collections are retained between sessions.

Epocrates Online Premium - Epocrates is a clinically relevant program to aid doctors in their daily care of patients and is both timely and accurate. Epocrates Online Premium features include:
• Over 2,800 drug monographs, including off-label uses.Epocrates Online Premium and Epocrates Essentials are also available in PDA format for FSU COM faculty, students and staff. Epocrates Essentials includes Epocrates Rx Pro, Epocrates SxDx (disease and diagnosis reference), and Epocrates Lab (diagnostic and laboratory test reference).

• Pill identification search (by characteristics or imprint code) and pill pictures.

Essential Evidence Plus (formerly InfoRetriever) -- Essential Evidence Plus contineus to feature InfoPOEMs, the highly-regarded daily EBM content alerting service, and the robust EBM search application formerly known as InfoRetriever. The incorporation of two new content resources-EBM Guidelines and e-Essential Evidence-will greatly augment the existing product features and content and position the re-branded resource Essential Evidence Plus as a state-of-the-art content system facilitating EBM practice, increasing clinical efficiency at the point of care, and improving patient outcomes.
EBM Guidelines is produced by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim and includes a concise, easy-to-use collection of more than 950 Practice Guidelines, more than 3,000 Evidence Summaries, and more than 1,000 images.
Wiley-Blackwell will add e-Essential Evidence to the Essential Evidence Plus suite during the first quarter of 2008. This resource is an innovative general medical reference providing highly relevant medical content in a highly structured, evidence-based format for general practitioners, nurses and physician assistants providing first contact care.

Food Science & Technology Abstracts* – FSTA specialist scientists monitor approximately 1800 journals and many other types of literature (books, conference proceedings, theses, patents, standards, legislation, etc.), published in over 40 languages, and select the items relevant to the food sector. They then condense each one into a short, highly informative abstract giving the key points and conclusions, and assign index terms. Coverage is from 1969 to the present. A drug identification tool is included, along with an interactive search engine for identifying drug-food-herbal interactions.

Geriatrics Review Syllabus – This is the full text of the American Geriatrics Society Geriatrics Review Syllabus: A core curriculum in geriatric medicine. It includes 56 up-to-date chapters on prevailing management strategies and research findings; as well as 250 case-oriented, multiple-choice questions, answers, critiques and references, making it an effective self-assessment tool.

Harrison’s Practice – Harrison’s Practice is a tool that delivers the most common medical topics in a quick format for instant information at point of care.

Health & Psychosocial Instruments (HAPI) (EBSCO) - features material on unpublished information-gathering tools for clinicians that are discussed in journal articles, such as questionnaires, interview schedules, tests, checklists, rating and other scales, coding schemes, and projective techniques. Over 2/3 of the tools are in medical and nursing areas such pain measurement, quality of life assessment, and drug efficacy evaluation.
Health and Wellness Resource Center (Gale)* - is a comprehensive resource for libraries, schools, and hospitals that provides integrated access to medical, health, and wellness information through an intuitive Web interface. Including the respected Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Health & Wellness Resource Center delivers up-to-date reference material as well as full-text magazines, journals, and pamphlets from a wide variety of authoritative medical sources. Additionally, consumers, students, and professionals are provided with descriptions of and links to several pertinent Web sites, selected for their usefulness and appropriateness.

Images.MD - Provides close to 50,000 images across all aspects of basic science and clinical medicine. A capability to save images in your personal library is provided via self-created passwords.
InfoRetriever/InfoPOEMS (now Essential Evidence Plus) - Available on-line, for desktop and PDA, this evidence-based medicine database of information includes the following searchable resources, as well as an e-mail alerting service:
• ICD-9 lookup tool including the 1,000 most-commonly needed codes
• The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (over 1100 abstracts)
• Clinical rules and calculators (120 decision rules and calculators like the Ottawa Ankle Rules, Strep Score, ABG interpretation, and much more)
• Evidence-Based Practice newsletter (1,500 brief critical appraisals of the most important primary care literature, adding about 350 per year)
• Journal of Family Practice POEMs feature (575 detailed critical appraisals of the most important primary care literature per year, adding 96 per year)

Lexis-Nexis* - Lexis-Nexis provides full-text coverage of general news, business, legal, governmental and other topics. Excellent resource for recent legislative information and statistics on a broad range of areas, including medicine and healthcare.

MD Consult - MD Consult is a one-stop virtual library to e-books, e-journals (via an enhanced MEDLINE interface), patient education handouts, medical news, drug information, and clinical guidelines. There are currently 115 full text reference books in MD Consult, over 90 full text current journal titles, and 50 Clinics. MD Consult has a companion resource called FirstConsult. FirstConsult provides information on medical conditions and links seamlessly to MD Consult content. Special note about user names and passwords: You may create your own password for customized services such as use of the PDA resource called MDC Mobile. MDC Mobile provides downloads of recent news items, contents pages of your favorite journals and the ability to initiate searches from your PDA device for later review within your MD Consult account. You may also enter MD Consult as a generic user.
Medical Letter - This is the online version of the highly regarded Medical Letter newsletter with enhanced functionality. Limited number of simultaneous users.

MedlinePlus - MedlinePlus has extensive consumer health and patient education information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 650 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and a medical dictionary, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials. This resource is free to the public.

Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database - This is a database on natural medicine products that can be used by keyword search in the database. You can find any product by scientific name, common name, or brand name. Find any product by ingredient, or search by any one of dozens of different combinations of criteria. netAnatomy - is designed to teach human anatomy to students of the health professions, including undergraduate medical, health sciences, and nursing students. NetAnatomy also serves as a place to review anatomy after one’s initial exposure to the subject, e.g. students beginning a clinical rotation, USMLE (National Board) preparation, etc.
netLibrary* - FSU resource that includes the full text of over 47,000 books across all academic disciplines. There are over 5,000 full text books on medically related topics.

PEPID - PEPID Clinical Rotations Companion (CRC) is specifically designed as an indispensable aid in the clinical rotation environment and contains the full professional suite of PEPID products. It contains information from detailed history and physical exam information, to admission orders, to specific disease diagnostic and treatment information. It also contains a Drug Database that includes includes over 7,500 drug, herbal and OTC generic and trade names with extensive kinetics and mechanism of action information, and adult and pediatric dosing with built-in dosing calculators.
Prescriber’s Letter - Prescriber’s Letter is a subscription service for prescribers to keep them up to date on new developments in drug therapy. Concise updates are paired with detailed, referenced evidence-based articles. Look for PDA downloads of issues and charts.

PsycARTICLES* - Access to the full-text of articles in 48 journals from the American Psychological Association, as well as access to the full PsycInfo database.

PsyCritiques* - Combines a weekly release of book and film reviews with a searchable database. Starting with Volume 50 in January 2005, the database replaced the print journal Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books. The weekly electronic release offers major enhancements, very current reviews, and much more content.
In each weekly release, PsycCRITIQUES delivers approximately 18–20 reviews of psychological books, most from the current copyright year. Each release also includes a review of a popular film from a psychological perspective. Other content includes videos, comparative reviews, and the occasional retrospective review.
PsychiatryOnline - This is a collection of 5 e-journals, DSM-IV-TR and accompanying handbooks with cases, APA Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of Psychiatric Disorders, and the Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry, all published by the American Psychiatric Publishing group.
PsycINFO* - from the American Psychological Association (APA), contains citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, technical reports and dissertations, from more than 2,100 international sources in psychology and related disciplines, dating as far back as the 1800s. Links to some full text are available, and the majority of the covered material is peer-reviewed.

PubMed - PubMed, is a service of the National Library of Medicine, which provides access to over 16 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals. MEDLINE is the primary database used for getting to the subject content of articles in medicine. There are several ways to get to MEDLINE, including OVID, MD Consult and PubMed. PubMed links directly from the article reference to the full article for all electronic journals available at FSU. It is recommended that medical researchers begin with PubMed and make use of the full-text links and “related articles” feature of PubMed. Over 3,000 e-journals are accessible in full text via PubMed, linking users to 7.9 million full articles.
R2Library - The R2Library, developed by Rittenhouse, contains the full text of 8 searchable medical books with all images, tables and graphics.
RefWorks (Citation Manager)* - is a Web-based service that enables a user to create a personal database of selected references either by importing from an online research database or by inputting manually. This database is then searchable, enabling a user to select needed references for a paper and easily generate a bibliography in a given bibliographic style.

Serials Solutions* – Serials Solutions provides users access to over 60,000 electronic journals with links to the full-text, electronic format of journals available across all disciplines as well as journals specific to the College of Medicine.

Signal Transduction KE (STKE) - Science's Signal Transduction Knowledge Environment includes research protocols, full-text articles and interactive information management tools for the signal transduction research community.
SPORTDiscus with Full Text* – is the world's most comprehensive source of full text for sports & sports medicine journals, providing full text for more than 415 journals indexed in SPORTDiscus. Of those, nearly 250 have cover-to-cover indexing in SPORTDiscus. With more than 700,000 full-text articles dating back to 1985, SPORTDiscus with Full Text is the definitive research tool for all areas of sports and sports medicine literature.

STAT!Ref - 9 full text reference books complete with text, tables, and images. This is sorted by relevance and rank and includes Stedman’s Online Dictionary. Limited to 5 simultaneous users.

Thieme ElectronicBook Library - The Thieme ElectronicBook Library launches with the popular Flexibook Atlases and Textbooks Series. It includes pocket guides and color atlases in anatomy, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, as well as other medicine and life sciences topics.
Web of Knowledge* - 1945 to the present. There are over 7,000 journal titles, cited reference searching, citations, and reference links in this scientific research database. The Web of Knowledge site includes several components: Web of Science, Current Contents Connect and Highly Cited.com. This is an essential tool for serious researchers because of the ability to connect references among articles and throughout the entire database. The CrossSearch tool allows searching across multiple ISI Web of Knowledge products and external collection databases such as PubMed, Agricola, and NTIS. It is difficult to understate the value of this tool. Limited number of simultaneous users.
