Consumer Health (Patient Education)
The following is a list of consumer health (patient education) resources available for access from any computer connected to the Internet on the FSU campus and via our EZProxy for off-campus access (http://med.fsu.edu/library/RemoteAccess.asp).
Epocrates Online Premium - ePocrates is a clinically relevant program to aid doctors in their daily care of patients and is both timely and accurate. ePocrates Online Premium features include:
• Over 2,800 drug monographs, including off-label uses.
• Patient education information in English and Spanish.Epocrates Online Premium and Epocrates Essentials are also available in PDA format for FSU COM faculty, students and staff. Epocrates Essentials includes Epocrates Rx Pro, Epocrates SxDx (disease and diagnosis reference), and Epocrates Lab (diagnostic and laboratory test reference).
• Pill identification search (by characteristics or imprint code) and pill pictures.
• Formulary information for hundreds of health plans and hospitals.
• Drug interaction search among up to 50 drugs and/or alternative medicines at once.
• Alternative medicine monographs, clinical tables and guidelines.

Health and Wellness Resource Center (Gale)* - is a comprehensive resource for libraries, schools, and hospitals that provides integrated access to medical, health, and wellness information through an intuitive Web interface. Including the respected Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Health & Wellness Resource Center delivers up-to-date reference material as well as full-text magazines, journals, and pamphlets from a wide variety of authoritative medical sources. Additionally, consumers, students, and professionals are provided with descriptions of and links to several pertinent Web sites, selected for their usefulness and appropriateness.

MD Consult - MD Consult is a one-stop virtual library to e-books, e-journals (via an enhanced MEDLINE interface), patient education handouts, medical news, drug information, and clinical guidelines. There are currently 115 full text reference books in MD Consult, over 90 full text current journal titles, and 50 Clinics. MD Consult has a companion resource called FirstConsult. FirstConsult provides information on medical conditions and links seamlessly to MD Consult content. Special note about user names and passwords: You may create your own password for customized services such as use of the PDA resource called MDC Mobile. MDC Mobile provides downloads of recent news items, contents pages of your favorite journals and the ability to initiate searches from your PDA device for later review within your MD Consult account. You may also enter MD Consult as a generic user.
MedlinePlus - MedlinePlus has extensive consumer health and patient education information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 650 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and a medical dictionary, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials. This resource is free to the public.
