The following is a list of subscription PDA electronic resources available for download and installation for all FSU CoM faculty, students and staff. Links to the web site for each of these products can be found by selecting PDA Websites on the CoM Library web page. (link above) Instructions for downloading, installing and using each of these products are found by following the link to CoM PDA Instructions from the PDA Websites page. The total value of these resources if purchased individually would exceed $1000.00 annually.


Clinical Evidence -- Published by the British Medical Journal Publishing Group, Clinical Evidence summarizes the current literature on the prevention and treatment of over 200 medical conditions. This resource is available in PDA format for FSU faculty, students and staff. Based on the current, best available evidence, prevention and treatment guidelines are presented as being either beneficial, likely to be beneficial, trade off between benefits and harms, unknown effectiveness, unlikely to be beneficial, and likely to be ineffective or harmful. This also includes background, key messages, and summaries of each treatment. Retail value $99/yr.

DynaMed -- DynaMed is a huge, evidence based reference designed to provide the most useful and current disease information at the point-of-care for health care professionals. Where available, links are provided to full-text electronic resources, including all FSU-available e-journals via a PubMed reference. Retail value: $200/yr. Information on disease entities are organized into the following categories for ease of use and quick answers to clinical questions:

Epocrates Essentials -- Epocrates is the most popular PDA drug reference available. The database is constantly updated every time you synchronize your PDA, and gives you Doc Alerts of breaking medical news. All sections are interlinked for ease of use. Retail value: $149/yr. Epocrates Essentials features include:
  • Over 2,800 drug monographs, including off-label uses, dosing, contraindications, adverse reactions, cost, Black Label warnings, pharmacology, etc.

Essential Evidence Plus -- continues to feature InfoPOEMs, the highly-regarded daily EBM content alerting service, and the robust EBM search application formerly known as InfoRetriever. Retail Value: $249.99/year.
The incorporation of two new content resources-EBM Guidelines and e-Essential Evidence-will greatly augment the existing product features and content and position the re-branded resource Essential Evidence Plus as a state-of-the-art content system facilitating EBM practice, increasing clinical efficiency at the point of care, and improving patient outcomes.

Geriatrics at Your Fingertips (GAYF) -- is available from the American Geriatrics Society at www.geriatricsatyourfingertips.org and is the best collection of articles, guidelines, calculators, protocols and images imaginable for the care of our aging population. This was free to everyone. Retail value: $30.

Shots, 2008 -- While InfoRetriever has an immunization schedule in it, it is faster to use this product offered by the Group on Immunization Education of the Society of Teachers in Family Medicine at www.Immunizationed.org . This includes colorful adult, pediatric and special situation immunizations charts linked to small monographs on all immunizations.


The Merck Manual and The Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests. (PGDT) -- These are available in a package of free tools from www.MerckMedicus.com that also includes updated Medical News and the table of contents to the latest issue of a number of esteemed journals. PGDT includes the pathophysiology of the tests, normal values and interpretation.


ePSS (USPSTF) Tool – The free electronic Preventive Services Selector (ePSS) identifies clinical preventive services for screening, counseling, and preventive medication based on the patient's age, gender, and pregnancy status. It reflects current recommendations of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and can be used as a clinical tool for delivering appropriate services.
